I have been buying lots of new art supplies recently I can't access most of my collection a the moment so I took the opportunity to re-purchase some old favourites, try some new things including a few bits from some of my most trusted brands.
I have wanted to try watercolours for a while so I picked up this Winsor and Newton Coteman Landscape set, I thought it would be perfect for travelling as its small enough to fit in your pocket, comes with its own brush and as the paints need to be activated with water, it's not too messy. I ended up adding 2 new colours to the set, the Winsor and Newton Cerulean blue hue and the Winsor and Newton Chinese white. I picked up this little Talens 12 x 12 sketchbook in mint, I was drawn to it mostly because of the adorable ice-cream colours they come in and thought it would be fun to challenge myself to the mini square format.
I had a couple of commissions to do and no desk to do them on, so I purchased an A3 drawing board that had a clip to attach my paper to. I can't believe I've never bought one before, it is so convenient to carry as it's light, sturdy and has a little handle cut out at the top.
I needed paper for my commissions so I picked up a Winsor and Newton Watercolour A3 pad to try and a Daler and Rowney Mixed Media A4 pad, both excellent quality and great value. I then stocked up on an array of Caran Dache Luminance pencils, a very loyal art supply of mine that I love and trust. I repurchased Scarlet, Spring Green, Yellow Ochre, Orange, Apricot, Primrose, Cobalt Blue, White and Dark English Green. I have the full set of the Luminance pencils in the storage unit that I top up as and when I need them and feel totally lost without them.
I saw a packet of Daler and Rowney oil pastels for such a good price (£5!) so I bought those thinking they would be fun to try and it would be nice to have a full set of something at my disposal so I wasn't without any colours. I also treated myself to a packet of Posca pens, I have one pen already and think it's fantastic, so I knew I was going to enjoy this set.
I can never be without a fineliner of some kind and decided on the Staedler chisel tip pigment liner, I love using these types of pens for the black details in a portrait and also in my sketchbook.
Protecting the edges of a commission is really important to me, especially as I was working on my knee so I bought this multipack of Artist Tape, It keeeps edges clean, creates a nice crisp border and is still easily peelable after being on the page for a long time.
